On the east side of San Giovanni in Laterano Place, is a building designed by Domenico Fontana (1589) hosting the two parts remained of the Palace of Laterano. One is the Sancta Sanctorum, the other is the Scala Santa. It seems that the 28 steps of the scale are those routes by Christ to go by Pontius Pilate during the process and have been brought from Jerusalem by Saint Helena, mother of Constantino emperor. leggi tutto

Entering the church means resume the thread of a speech started a few tens of meters before, into the Sancta Sanctorum of San Giovanni in Laterano. The connection is represented by Elena, mother of Constantino emperor, from whose palace started the history of this place which was originally a domestic chapel, which later was pulled on a real basilica.
